What started as a conversation between friends, seated together at a wedding reception, grew into a business partnership rooted in a passion for the Catholic faith.
Joy Foster and Mary Dorhauer combined their shared event coordination backgrounds and set out to create a joyful, vibrant, wedding planning business dedicated to serving Catholic clients. They launched their company as Something Blue Catholic Weddings in 2018, and rebranded as Simply Sacred Events in 2022.
Inspired by Sts. Benedict and Meinrad’s spirits of hospitality and St. Francis of Assisi’s dedication to building up Christ’s church, Joy and Mary imbue every step of the planning process with clarity and intercession—they create a custom novena for each of their couples and invite friends and family to join in the prayer, concluding with Day 9 on the wedding morning.

Weddings are a chance to share in a slice of someone else’s happiness, even if in a small way. The welcoming atmosphere of the church. The joyful guests arriving with anticipation. The triumphant grins as the newly minted Mr. and Mrs. exit the church for the first time. Witnessing families come together. And most of all knowing Jesus is looking down with such love for these two people who have just become one. It gives us goosebumps every time!
Our business is centered around our Catholic faith, especially with our detailed work on assisting couples with liturgical planning. Our love of the liturgy and of the beauty of marriage inspires us to share that love with our clients and their families. We see Simply Sacred as a ministry, in addition to a business.
